Drop-in event ahead of work starting on Commonwealth Games aquatics centre
Residents will be able to find out the latest information on construction work for a state-of-the-art aquatics centre to feature as part of the Commonwealth Games.
A drop-in event on the centre, which will be built in Smethwick, will take place on Tuesday, January 28 between 5pm and 8.30pm at West Smethwick Park Pavilion on West Park Road, Smethwick, B67 7JJ.
Works to prepare the Londonderry Lane site for construction of the centre began in July 2019. Main construction work is due to start over the next few weeks after the contract was signed with Wates Construction in November 2019.
Councillor Maria Crompton, Sandwell Council's cabinet member with responsibility for leisure, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has given their feedback on this project. We’ve listened to your views and we are working to deliver a world-class leisure facility with a new children’s play area serving the community for generations to come.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to keep you updated on the progress being made, we are holding a drop-in session."
Officers from the council and Wates Construction will be at the session to answer any questions.
Residents can also comment about the construction of the aquatics centre by emailing aquatics_centre@sandwell.gov.uk.
The centre will host swimming and diving events as part of the Birmingham Games in 2022 before becoming a leisure centre for the public.
