Sandwell Council care staff praised by inspectors
Staff who ensure elderly people can remain in their own homes have been praised – after health inspectors rated their work as ‘good’ across all categories.
Manifoldia Grange Extra Care Service, which looks after 33 clients aged over 65 by cooking meals, helping with bathing and administering medication, has been lauded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in July.
The Sandwell Council-run unit was singled out for its consistent care from its long standing staff who had worked with clients for several years and for its care to people facing potential risks to their safety.
Inspectors rated the service as good in the areas of safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness to clients and management.
Following the inspection, the CQC said: “People were cared for and supported by staff who were kind and caring.
“Staff supported people to be as independent as possible. People were encouraged and supported to undertake self care tasks and maintain their skills.”
It added: “Relatives and staff had confidence in the management team and the service. People told us the quality of the service was good and that the management were approachable and helpful.”
Councillor Farut Shaeen, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for living healthy lives, welcoming the inspectors’ findings, said: “We are very pleased with the rating recently given to our Extra Care Scheme for older people, Manifoldia Grange. The report has highlighted the steps we have made to get a rating of ‘good’ and we have a great workforce who offer the support and care our service users need.
“We have also received some wonderful feedback from our residents and their relatives as part of this process.
“Well done to the team who have worked very hard to get an overall rating of Good for the service across all the five standards – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.”
