The Animal House Rescue Charity has taken on the care of the Dogue de Bordeaux they named Elsa because it was found 'frozen' at Corngreaves Nature Reserve, in Cradley Heath, by a member of the public.

The dog is now being cared for by YourVets in Smethwick but help is needed to prepare for substantial vet bills which are due to be handed over soon.

The dog, which is supposed to weigh around 45 kilos, currently only weighs 17 kilos.

Sue Hodges, a volunteer for Animal House Rescue Charity, said: "We would love to find out exactly why someone thought it was OK to leave this beautiful dog to die like this.

"It was probably hours away from death and is one of the most malnourished dogs we have ever seen.

"Please can anyone who can help us fund what are sure to be expensive vet bills come forward."

The charity is run by around 20 volunteers across the Sandwell and Birmingham area.

Anyone who can help is asked to call 0121 4223709 or 07989 284683
