Mold Crown Court was told that defendant Ben Griffiths, 27, who served in Afghanistan, had consensual sex with the 16-year-old girl.

But she alleged that on a later occasion, she woke up and he was indecently assaulting her. She told a jury that she was shocked and frightened by what had happened.

The young woman later left him a message which read “no means no”.

Griffiths, of Penybont, Cyfronydd near Welshpool, said that no such thing had happened and that he was puzzled by her note.

He said that they had sex with her consent previously, which he did not believe was inappropriate.

The court heard that Griffiths after leaving the army did voluntary work as a mentor for ex-servicemen.
