Councillor Andrew Tromans, who was elected Labour member for Wollaston and Stourbridge Town at the election in May last year, has announced he will be sitting with the Liberal Democrat group on Dudley Council from Monday (March 3).
Councillor Tromans announced his resignation from the Labour Party in September last year - four months after being elected.
He said his resignation was due to the 'austerity' measures being introduced by Sir Keir Starmer's Government.
Councillor Tromans said he had been a Labour Party member for 10 years.
His defection takes the number of Liberal Democrats on the finely poised council to four.
The Conservatives hold 35 seats on Dudley Council, Labour 31 and the Liberal Democrats four. There are also two independents: Councillor Shaun Keasey, who was elected as an independent in Sedgley after quitting the Conservatives, and Councillor Steve Edwards, who resigned from the Labour Party last month.
Councillor Tromans had been voting with the Liberal Democrats as part of the 'Unity Group' since his resignation from Labour.
