Matthew Gill: Praise for family at inquest after mounting search
The heartbroken family of a missing man found dead after seven weeks were praised at his inquest for their nationwide appeal to find him.
It came as the tragic details of his death were revealed at a hearing at coroner’s court.
The search for Matthew Gill – who went missing on October 6 last year – caught attention as Wolves and Albion both joined the appeal and missing posters were distributed across the country.
But despite their efforts his family’s hopes were shattered when his body was found on land off Prestwood Drive, near Stourton on November 28.
Cannock Coroner’s Court yesterday heard how the 43-year-old Stourbridge man, who died as a result of hanging, was eventually found by a girl while moving horses on November 28.
The inquest heard some of the foilage present while police were originally scouring the area may have gone later in the year when the body was found.
The inquest also heard that Mr Gill had been suffering with anxiety and depression.
Police discovered Mr Gill’s silver Smart Roadster car near Petzone, off the A449 at Prestwood, after he vanished.
Officers also revealed his mobile phone had been switched on for a few hours on October 19 but the trail then went cold.
Coroner Andrew Haigh, recorded a conclusion of suicide, on the Kidderminster B&Q employee, also known as Liggy.
And he commended Mr Gill’s family and friends for their huge efforts to try and find their loved one.
