Hagley Catholic High School was shut on Wednesday following the death of Dr Abigail Brown on Tuesday night.

The school, in Brake Lane, Hagley, near Stourbridge, closed as a mark of respect following her death.

School principal, Suzanne Horan, said colleagues were 'devastated at the unexpected loss'.

In a statement she said: "The school is closed today as a mark of respect following the sudden death of a much-loved teacher, Dr Abigail Brown, last night.

"We are all devastated at this unexpected loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

"The school will reopen as normal tomorrow and support will be available for colleagues and students."
