Former Stourbridge police station up for sale

It was a fair cop for many criminals who were banged up in the cells there. Now police are looking for a fair price for this former station.

The former Stourbridge Police Station, which has stood on New Road for more than a century, is on the market.

The empty station, which shut for good in June, is up for sale through agents GVA with offers invited from developers.

The old station, part of which dates back to 1885, even includes a bar, lounge and pool room where officers used to unwind after a busy day pounding the beat.

Stourbridge town councillor Steve Clark said: “It is disappointing but it is what is is, we move on and my job is to make sure we have got some police presence in Stourbridge.

“We’re trying to create a police hub to keep a number of police in Stourbridge and they have looked at a couple of rooms that we have made available for them.”

Sitting on the busy ring road the site has three buildings including the former station, Wendy House and an accommodation block.

The station building is 14,962 square feet.

Wendy House is the smallest building on-site at just 1,593sq-ft and provides office accommodation at ground and first floor, with a small kitchen area on the ground floor. A bar, a lounge, pool room, locker rooms and toilets are included on the ground floor of the three-storey accommodation building section of the site, with 16 single en-suite bedrooms also on the first and second floor.

A communal kitchen and laundry room are also provided on the first floor.

Two former police stations also sold for a combined £865,000 earlier this year. Sheldon Police Station sold for £465,000 from a guide price of £180,000, while Longbridge Police Station achieved its guide price of £400,000 back in July.

The pair were among 28 police stations that had either already shut or were due to close over the next two years as part of efforts by West Midlands Police to save £8.5 million.

The former Walsall police station, which also went on sale for a price of around £1 million last year, was reported to have been put back on the market in July after an earlier deal fell through.
