Stourbridge gears up for play-off final

Hundreds of football fans are expected to travel to the North East on Saturday to cheer on Stourbridge FC.

The football club faces Spennymoor Town FC in the play-off final of the Northern Premier League.

If they win, the club will return to the second tier of the non-league pyramid for the first time in more than 30 years.

Last night, supporters queued up to buy coach tickets for the 200-mile plus journey.

Coaches will depart from Old Wharf Road at 8.30am on Saturday morning for the long trip.

Tickets for the coaches were being sold yesterday from 7pm to 9pm.

Chairman Andy Pountney said: "It has been a terrific season, what with the cup and now the play-off final.

"We hope for a good backing, I know plenty who have already said they are going.

"It is a long trip up and we appreciate the support."

Tickets for the game at Spennymoor's home ground The Brewery Field will cost £10 for an adult, £6 for concessions and £3 for juniors.

The ground holds 6,000 fans.

Stourbridge were last in the second tier of non-league football when they were relegated from the Southern League Premier Division in 1984.

The game on Saturday comes after the club beat Workington in the semi-final of the play-offs on Monday night.

It caps a successful seasons for the club, which reached the third round of the FA Cup, eventually losing to Wycombe.
