National Trust rules out taking on historic Black Country building that was key to Gunpowder Plot
The National Trust has ruled out buying the Black Country house where the Gunpowder plotters made their last stand amid concerns about its future.
Holbeche House, in Wall Heath, near Dudley, has been lying empty for a year since it closed as a nursing home.
Dudley Council has written to Historic England, asking that the building be added to its Heritage at Risk register.
The authority has also contacted Holbeche House's owner asking about its plans for the building.
Residents have expressed concerns it could suffer the same fate as the Crooked House, which was hit by fire and subsequently demolished earlier this month.
