Flames towered into the sky as the fierce blaze took hold in Havacre Lane overnight on Friday into Saturday.

Dramatic pictures showed the huge fire gathering strength as dozens of firefighters battled to bring it under control, using a hydraulic platform.

Fire crews were praised for their quick actions responding to the blaze and stopping from spreading further.

Residents were told to keep their doors and windows closed while crews from Bilston, Tipton and Dudley dealt with the fire at the business premises.

Firefighters contained the fire to the scrap heap, which contained items involving cars and fridges. Two crews remained at the scene on Saturday morning after the fire was put out. The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed.

Kelly Pearce said she could see the 'massive fire' from her window. "Been hearing things explode for over an hour," she said.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "The fire involved 100 tonnes of scrap metal and the fire was contained to the scrap heap. Crews used three hose main jets and one hose reel jet. There was also two on-site cranes.

"Crews went back on Saturday morning to carry on damping down."
