Elderly man dies in Brierley Hill crash
An elderly man has died after his car crashed when he suffered 'a medical episode' while driving in Dudley.
The driver, who was in his 70s, was involved in a two-car collision in Bank Street, Brierley Hill just before 8am today.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics were called at about 7.50am to a crash at the junction of Victoria Street and Bank Street, where they found a man in a critical condition.
A spokesman for WMAS said: "We were called at 7.48am to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Victoria Street and Bank Street, two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition.
"Ambulance crews were told that the man had suffered a suspected medical episode prior to the collision.
"They immediately began administering specialist trauma care to the patient, which continued as the patient was transferred to Russell’s Hall Hospital."
West Midlands Police also attended shortly after.
A spokesman for the force said: "We were called to Bank Street, Brierley Hill, at 8.15am today after a reports of a minor two-car collision.
"It is understood that shortly afterwards the driver of one of the cars, who was in his 70s, suffered a medical episode.
"He was taken to hospital but sadly later died.
"Enquiries are continuing."
