The Crown on Simms Lane was built in 1969 but closed in 2018 after two men were injured in a machete attack.

It was granted permission to reopen in 2019 under strict conditions but closed again and was the scene of an arson attack in 2021.

Planners have now approved a proposal to demolish the eyesore pub and replace it with a convenience store and two other retail units.

Dudley planners have also approved a scheme to build a new bungalow on a vacant plot of land in Kingswinford.

The site, on Frayne Avenue, is residential garden space related to number 12 but the existing property would retain a driveway at the front and a private garden to the rear.

Despite an objection from the occupiers of a neighbouring property, planners decided the new house would not overshadow other homes or cause a loss of privacy.

Meanwhile a former dentist’s surgery in Wollaston looks set to be converted into two residential units after planners gave an application for a change of use their blessing.

The site, on High Street, has been granted permission to become a two-bedroom unit and a one-bedroom unit following internal alterations.

The building had previously been a dwelling and was granted permission to become a dental surgery in 2008.

Dudley Council is set to rule on an application to convert a five-bedroom house in Pedmore into a children’s home.

The application applies to 44 Dorchester Road and, if granted, would provide accommodation for people aged eight to 16 suffering with learning difficulties and emotional trauma.

Residents would live at the property on a long-term basis and it is proposed the house would be occupied by up to five young people.

There would be at least two members of staff also onsite around the clock.
