Councillors in Dudley are hoping to raise around £30,000 for the ‘Russells Hall Rainbow’ monument, which would be located at the front of the borough’s main hospital.

It is hoped that the sculpture will act as permanent reminder and give thanks for the work that has been done by NHS, healthcare, key workers and volunteers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A host of local, regional and national businesses have pledged their support, and now Travis Perkins has added their name to the growing list of sponsors.

The UK's largest building merchant, which has locations across the region, has agreed to help with materials for the landscaping around the sculpture.

Councillor Keiran Casey, who launched the project, said: "It's fantastic that such a brilliant, well known and respected company like Travis Perkins have now pledged their support to this project.

"It's so important that we always remember what so many people have done for us throughout Dudley during these difficult times, from treating loved ones to ensuring our supermarkets stay open for us to use and to all the community volunteers that have provided a life line to so many".

"We owe more than words can say to those on the frontline of this fight and we must never take for granted the vital work they do for us all year round, and hopefully this rainbow sculpture will show just a fraction of the thanks and gratitude we have for our Borough's heroes".

Nick French, regional director for the West Midlands at Travis Perkins, said: "We are delighted to be asked to join the Borough in this venture.

"Having a presence in the local community, and supporting such a worthwhile cause is really important to us. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished result."
