The scheme to demolish the Bridge Trading Estate on St Peter’s Road to make way for houses, maisonettes and flats have sparked fears that surrounding properties will be overlooked.

But council officers say changes to lower heights by 50 centimetres mean neighbours should not be ‘unduly’ affected.

Dudley Council’s development committee is being recommended to approve the plans for 32 dwellings.

Original designs for three-storey buildings led to complaints from residents who feared they would lose their privacy.

Although developers have lowered the proposed heights and reduced the length of one block to 16.5 metres, three objectors say the buildings are still too high compared to neighbouring houses.

If passed, the development would create 19 houses, six maisonettes and seven flats which will be rented out by a housing association.

Recommending granting planning approval planning officers have said: “It is considered that the proposed development is acceptable in principle and that the detailed design of the scheme would not result in a detrimental impact on the character or appearance of the area, the amenities of the occupiers of neighbouring properties or adjoining uses.”

Members of the development committees will discuss the proposal at their meeting on December 9.
