Tributes paid to former Dudley Council leader
Tributes have been paid to a long-serving former Dudley Council leader following his death.
Jack Edmonds served as a councillor in Norton for more than 30 years until 1994 and was a former leader of the council. He was made an Honorary Alderman for his services to the borough.
Conservative Mr Edmonds led the council until 1992 and was hailed by tycoons the Richardson brothers for enabling them to launch the Merry Hill shopping centre.
Mike Wood, Tory MP for Dudley South, said: "Really sorry to learn of the death of Jack Edmonds OBE, Norton councillor for many years and former leader of Dudley Council.
"He was a lovely man who patiently shared his experience with me when I first got joined Stourbridge Conservatives. He will be greatly missed by many."
Mayor of Dudley Alan Taylor said: "Our thoughts are with Jack’s family and friends at this very sad time. He served the people of his ward and the borough extremely well for many years and will be greatly missed by everyone.”
