Police praised as woman rescued from bridge over A461
Police officers 'risked their lives' to rescue a woman from a bridge over a busy Black Country road last night.
The Force Response Unit from West Midlands Police was called to Duncan Edwards Way in Dudley where the woman was reported as being on the wrong side of the railings.
Chief Inspector Jack Hadley, of West Midlands Police, praised the work of his team following the incident on the A461 at around 6pm on Monday.
He said: "So proud of my officers from Dudley. Called to a report of someone on the wrong side of a bridge over a busy dual carriageway.
"They risked their lives to save the person, brilliant commitment to helping vulnerable people. Well done, they should be very proud.
"Yesterday evening my officers saved two lives, arrested eight burglars and six car thieves, recovered three stolen cars, arrested numerous DV offenders, had five pursuits, helped five people with mental health issues and dealt with a shooting."
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were called to Duncan Edwards Way in Dudley just before 6pm last night to a report of a woman sitting on the bridge.
"Upon emergency services arrival, the 23-year-old woman was safely removed from the bridge and assessed, before being taken home."
