Man dies after falling from industrial unit roof

A man has died after falling from the roof of an industrial unit in the Black Country, police confirmed tonight.

The 43-year-old man was found in cardiac arrest after falling in Lower Gornal this morning.

Ambulance crews and police were called to the scene off Deepdale Lane at 11.40am, where tape cordoned off an area outside a building operated by Surface Technik Ltd.

A helicopter was also seen landing at nearby playing fields next to Roberts Primary School.

Police remained at the scene as investigations continued this afternoon and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

No-one from the firm was available for comment.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police can confirm that the man who fell from a roof at an industrial unit in Deepdale Lane, Lower Gornal before midday died at the scene.

"The 43-year-old man lived in Walsall and investigations continue."

A HSE spokesman added: "HSE is aware of this incident and has supported the police who have primacy over the investigation."
