Driver airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after Gospel End crash

A man has been taken to hospital with multiple serious injuries after a crash between a car and a lorry.

The male car driver, in his 20s, was trapped in his vehicle for about 50 minutes and had to be cut free before being airlifted to hospital.

Emergency services were called to Wodehouse Lane in Gospel End, near Sedgley, at 3.20pm.

An ambulance, a senior paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

The motorist suffered multiple injuries – including to his leg and pelvis – was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Ambulance service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: “Crews arrived to find a car that had suffered significant damage in the collision with the driver, a man believed to be in his 20s, trapped inside.

“Ambulance staff continually assessed the man as they worked closely with the fire service to cut him free through the roof.

“He was treated for multiple injuries, including to his leg and pelvis.

"He was immobilised, given pain relief and carefully moved on to the air ambulance before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham for further treatment.

“The lorry driver, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”
