The show, which took place outside on Stone Street, attracted a wide mix of cars including an E-type Jaguar and an MG sports car from the 1930s.

It was organised by chartered surveyor firm John Emms Commercial, which has its office on Stone Stone.

Mr Emms himself is a classic car enthusiast and has pledged to bring the show back next year after the success of Saturday's event.

He said: "It was a superb day, really good. We are delighted it went so well. There was a great interest and it got a great reception from the people that turned up. It was a great day for the town. We are really really pleased, especially as all of this was done from scratch. There was lots of enthusiasm and people saying come back and do it again next year - which we will.

"We had 22 cars on the day including an E-type Jag, a Triumph Stag and a couple of Austin A30s. There was a complete mix across the board. The Triumph driver came from Redcar and we had another driver who came from Stratford-upon-Avon so they came from far and wide.

"The mayor came as well and he judged the show and the E-type Jag was the winner, receiving a bottle of champagne.

"After Saturday it is definitely something we are looking to grow and expand for future years."

Asked about where the idea came from to bring a classic car show to Dudley Mr Emms, whose firm has been in the town for more than 30 years, said: "I love classic cars, it is just one of those wonderful quintessential British things.

"It was just one of those ideas that the more you think about the more you think it could be done. It took more than a year of planning and I must thank Dudley Council which did a fantastic job getting everything ready for the day."

The cars were back on display again on Sunday at the West Midlands Classic Car Club’s annual show at Dudley Zoo.
