A huge pile of rubbish lies on land, off Shaw Road, Dudley

The Environment Agency took enforcement action against the company responsible for the 2,000 tons of rubbish at Shaw Road, Dudley last year.

And now, this week, the permit holders and landowners of the land have began clearing the site, under the watch of the agency.

Steve Rogers, environment officer for the Environment Agency said: “Waste on the site of Rowanoak Waste, Shaw Road, Dudley, has started to be cleared.

“While our investigation into the depositing of the waste at the site is ongoing, we have been working with the permit holders and landowners to secure the safe and legal removal of waste at the site.

“We estimate the site contains 2,000 tons of waste; this waste is now being cleared and will be taken to landfill. We are monitoring and tracking the waste to make it is being disposed of safely.

“We take our role as a regulator seriously and we take enforcement action against anyone operating outside their permit or operating illegally. If anyone has any concerns about a waste site, do call us on 0800 80 70 60.”

In March 2016, after failing to reduce the amount of waste on the site, the Environment Agency took formal enforcement action against the operator Rowan Oak Waste Services, and removed its right to operate.

A revocation notice was served, which took effect in April last year and required the operator to clear the site by September 16 2016, however only now is the pile being moved.
