Two people taken to hospital after multi-car crash on M6

One of four lanes was closed on the northbound carriageway as a result of the incident between Junction 4a for the M42 and J5 for Birmingham/Sutton Coldfield.

National Highways reported a "minor collision" on the road at around 7.50am.

There were delays of around 45 minutes, with traffic tailing back for five miles.

Two people, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital as a result of the crash.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "At around 7.30am, we were called by police colleagues to a road traffic collision on the M6 northbound between junction 4a and 5 near Castle Bromwich.

"An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered three cars had been involved in a collision.

"Two patients, a man and a woman, were treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Heartlands Hospital for further treatment."

Motorists were initially advised to seek alternative routes if possible and allow extra time for their journeys.

The lane reopened just before 9am but there were residual delays of around 45 minutes.
