A man was driving on Short Heath Road at around 2.20pm on Saturday (January 18) when he was threatened with a knife and told to get out of the vehicle.
West Midlands Police tracked down the stolen vehicle, which was brought safely to a stop following a short pursuit - but not before it had rammed into two police vehicles.
The stolen vehicle was later picked up by traffic and firearms teams and a knife was recovered from inside.
Three people in their 30s, all from Birmingham, were subsequently arrested and charged following the incident.
In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "Steven Hurlstone, aged 39 and from Birmingham has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
"Daniel Bree, aged 36 and from Birmingham has been charged with robbery, possession of a knife in a public place, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without insurance.
"Jodie Sivviter, aged 35 and from Birmingham has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.
"All three are due before Birmingham Magistrates today (20 January)."
