The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has begun the probe after the incident last month.

It happened on September 4 after police responded to a report that roof tiles were being stolen from a building at the former North Worcestershire Golf Course in Northfield.

Officers were engaging with a group of people on the site when a police dog seized a man by the leg.

The man was taken to hospital with bite injuries and has made a complaint to police about the incident.

IPCC Commissioner Derrick Campbell said: “Footage from this incident has been circulated widely through social media.

"It appears the man suffered some quite nasty wounds and I hope he makes a swift and full recovery.

"An independent investigation is now under way which will look at the circumstances and in particular how and why the dog was deployed.”
