Watch: Black Country food factory rising from the ashes after major blaze two years ago

 Work to rebuild a Willenhall food factory has started after huge blaze destroyed part of the premises.

See our new images of the site showing a huge metal frame being built for food distribution company Midland Chilled Foods, also  known as Midland Food Group, in Stringes Lane as the company seeks to rebuild the unit.

The new structure will be the site of  its new production and storage facility, along with offices as part of plans to potentially expand the number of employees from 55 to 80.

Agents DPS Architects said: "The premises at Stringes Lane suffered a serious fire on January 11, 2023 which resulted in the loss of 70 per cent of the building.

"For a few months Midland Chilled Foods operated out of the residual bays and hired mobile refrigeration or loading bays.

"Midland Chilled Foods distribute chilled food products across the UK. They carry a portfolio of over 2,000 products from everyday essentials through to specialist food products."

The operation temporarily relocated to a building in nearby Ashmore Lake Way until the redevelopment work is completed.

Around 50 firefighters fought to bring the flames and smoke under control two years ago. More than half of the building was damaged by fire with a large section of the roof destroyed.

At the time residents were advised to close their windows as the fire tore through the food suppliers unit due to the fumes and smells, an several roads were closed.

 The fire could be seen from miles around and nearby householders also reported hearing mini explosions coming for the premises at its height.
