West Midlands Police said officers will  be carrying out operations all day and evening focusing on domestic abuse and sexual offences as well as talking to members of the public about how to stay safe.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Bell , who is leading the operation said: “Keeping women and girls safe is a key priority for us.  Throughout today we will have officers and resources from different teams focusing their activity on this one issue to tackle perpetrators and raise awareness.

"All of this activity takes place as part of our ‘business as usual’ throughout the year however today, as we start the run up to Christmas and see an increase in socialising and people being out enjoying themselves, it’s a great opportunity to focus our resources on this extremely important issue that affects us all.”

Officers will also be speaking to taxi drivers to make sure they know what to look out for, in order to help keep women and girls safe and identify dangerous offenders, running operations on public transport and in student areas as well as officers visiting licensed premises.

Officers will be advising premises workers on the ‘Ask Angela’ campaign, speaking to women and girls about the support available and most importantly intervening if they see predatory behaviour by men.

Specially trained Project Servator officers will also be out across Birmingham city centre, engaging with businesses and the public to create a network of vigilance, recruiting people to be extra eyes and ears on the ground.

There will also be social media posts during the course of the day.
