David Beckham wins another cap as he launches new Peaky Blinders clothing range
He’s more familiar with England caps than flat caps but that’s all changed for David Beckham after he teamed up with Peaky Blinders to launch a new fashion collection.
The football and fashion icon could have been auditioning for a role on the show as he turned up to London Fashion Week donning a flat cap and wool coat.
Beckham is more used to the bright lights of Paris and Los Angeles than dark and menacing 1920s Birmingham but the global star appears to have taken a liking to early 20th century fashion.
The collection designed by Daniel Kearns was unveiled by Kent & Curwen, the label co-owned by the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar, during the major fashion event and features everything you would expect to find in Tommy Shelby’s wardrobe, the Brummie gangster in the show played by Cillian Murphy.
Peaky Blinders, partly filmed at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, has proved a huge hit since launching on the BBC in 2013.
It has been partly responsible for attire of the time, such as flat caps, coming back into fashion.
While you might not want to come across the gangsters featured in the show, their dress sense is clearly to be admired.
Each piece comes labelled by ‘The Garrison Tailors’, named after the Shelby family’s Birmingham pub.
The whole Beckham clan got in on the act, with wife Victoria and son Brooklyn, sporting a collarless shirt and peg trousers, also pictured at the fashion show.
The former England star said the family are huge fans of the show and that his love of the flatcap comes from his grandfather.
And he is clearly proud of the range, posting several pictures of him sporting the Peaky Blinders gear on his Instagram account, which has 53 million followers.
He posted: “Another incredible Kent & Curwen presentation for London Fashion Men’s Week.
“Thank you Daniel Kearns and Peaky Blinders, the collection looks great.
“Proud to have my family by my side to watch this morning.”
They were joined at the fashion show by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who said: “These men were gangsters — but they were absolute dandies, too, which feeds right into this partnership with Kent & Curwen.
“We’re a match made in heaven.”
Kent & Curwen was founded in 1926 by Kent and Dorothy Curwen, who were Savile Row tailors.
Beckham became majority owner in 2015 and has previously collaborated with photographer Perry Ogden and rock band the Stone Roses.
