PCSO Steve Hopley, from Cannock, takes his dancing partner by the hand in the shopping centre during a music event this week.

And the moment was captured on camera by a delighted shopper in a video which has gone viral with tens of thousands of views.

Mr Hopley, who has been in his role for 13 years and previously worked in electronics before he decided to put something back into the community.

He was on patrol with a colleague on their usual route through the city centre when they stumbled across a music event being held.

The 58-year-old said: "I said to a colleague I used to dance like that many years ago and he went and told the bloke and within a couple of minutes I had a willing dance partner.

"There was an organist playing some music and someone who usually organises a tea-dance had set up a bit of entertainment in the Mander Centre.

"It is always nice to prove you are just a normal. It is just something I do for a living when I put the uniform on. I have a role to play in with the community as well."

He added: "It was something I wanted to put back into the community. Every so often you touch someone's life in some way."

The PCSO is now known by colleagues at Wolverhampton Police as 'Twinkle Toes'. He said: "They are all supportive and they said it was great. They have come to see me and they said they didn't know I could dance like that."

The stars of Strictly had nothing on this pair as they took to the dancefloor to the amazement of shoppers.
