128 more coronavirus deaths confirmed in Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire
Another 128 coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in the region as the UK death toll increased by more than 1,000.
Fifty hospital deaths and 78 deaths in care homes were announced across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire on Tuesday.
It means 6,689 coronavirus patients have now died in hospitals across the region since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile care home deaths in the region have reached 1,267, according to a weekly update from the Office for National Statistics.
The UK death toll released by the Government, which only includes deaths within 28 days of a positive test, increased by 1,052 to 113,850 on Tuesday.
Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 132,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.
Meanwhile 12,646,486 people have been given their first vaccination in the UK - a daily rise of 352,480.
Some 516,392 people have received second vaccinations, an increase of 3,811.
Across the region
Of the care home deaths, 22 were announced in Staffordshire taking the death toll in homes to 451, 17 more were confirmed in Dudley taking the total to 127, nine were confirmed in Wolverhampton making a total of 157 and seven were confirmed in Walsall and Sandwell making new tolls of 144 and 91 respectively. Meanwhile 16 more care home deaths were announced in Birmingham taking the toll there to 297.
And in 30 more deaths were confirmed in Worcestershire, taking the care home toll to 348.
However Covid-19 deaths in care homes have only been recorded since April 10 meaning the true figure in each area is likely to be higher.
Of the 50 new hospital deaths, 12 were at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
The update means 999 people have now died at the trust that runs Sandwell General and City Hospital.
Six more deaths were confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, taking the death toll at the trust to 719.
Eight deaths were announced at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the major hospitals in Stafford and Stoke, taking the number of deaths there to 1,253.
One more death was announced at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, meaning 621 people have now died with Covid at Walsall Manor Hospital.
And 23 deaths were confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, making a new toll of 2,314. The trust runs Queen Elizabeth, Good Hope, Solihull and Heartlands hospitals.
No new deaths were announced at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, meaning the death toll at Russells Hall Hospital remains at 632.
