The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), which runs New Cross, has invested in new individual scrubs for medical staff, which bosses say will help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus and other infections.

All "smart scrub" uniforms have been embroidered with the RWT logo and come in two colours – dark blue for consultants and specialty doctors and green for junior medical staff.

Brian McKaig, deputy medical director at RWT, said the new uniforms would enhance workers' "professional image".

He said: “The new scrub uniforms are lightweight, comfortable to wear but more importantly help medical staff to minimise the risk of spreading infections.

“We know that our staff take great pride in their job and this will help to enhance their professional image and appearance to our patients.”

The uniform change comes as coronavirus patients have begun to rise again at New Cross over the last few weeks, in line with increasing cases across the country.
