Two coronavirus deaths reported in Staffordshire and Birmingham hospital and one in care home

Two more coronavirus deaths has been confirmed at hospital trusts in Birmingham and Staffordshire, in the latest figures released by NHS England.

Two more deaths have been reported

The deaths were confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBT) and also the University Hospitals North Midlands NHS Trust.

Also, in new figures released today by the Office of National Statistics, one more person has died in a local care home due to coronavirus.

The care home death was reported in Birmingham, on October 1. It takes the total of Covid deaths in care homes in Birmingham, Staffordshire and the Black Country to 705.

No new deaths were announced for hospitals across the Black Country. The latest figures take the total of deaths in hospitals in the region to 2,624.

One patient was confirmed to have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. It takes the total number of coronavirus deaths at the trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth, Good Hope, Heartlands and Solihull hospitals, to 1,013.

And another coronavirus patient has died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital, which takes the total to 361.

Meanwhile, 290 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, and 268 people have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

A total of 391 have died at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, and 230 have died at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

It comes as NHS England announced a further 50 people had died from coronavirus in hospitals, in figures taking the total to 30,226.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 50 people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,226.

"Patients were aged between 42 and 96 years old. All but four patients – aged 76,80, 82 and 92 – had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from 1 October to 5 October 2020 with the majority being on or after 3 October.

"Their families have been informed."
