One more coronavirus death confirmed in West Midlands
The death of another coronavirus patient in the West Midlands has been confirmed.
The patient, who died in hospital in Birmingham last Wednesday, was among nine Covid-19 deaths announced by the NHS today.
The patients were between 71 and 92 years old and all but one had known underlying health conditions.
The only Midlands death happened at the region's largest NHS trust, the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation, which runs four hospitals in the Birmingham area including Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
It means 2,565 people have now died in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.
An additional 698 people have died in the region's care homes after catching Covid-19.
Meanwhile the UK-wide death toll released by the Government increased by three to 41,504.
Unlike the NHS, the Government now only includes people who died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus in the national death toll.
The latest death means 974 have people have now died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation, more than at any other NHS trust in the country.
Elsewhere in the region 288 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, and 230 people have died at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust which runs Walsall Manor.
A total of 264 Covid-19 patients have died at Russells Hall Hospital and 383 people have died at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals.
In Staffordshire 355 people have died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust which runs the major hospitals in Stafford and Stoke.
