Two new coronavirus deaths in Black Country hospitals – the first in 12 days
Two coronavirus deaths have been reported at hospitals in the Black Country – after almost two weeks of no Covid deaths in the region.
One patient died in Wolverhampton, the other in Sandwell.
It takes the total number of people who have died in the region's hospitals from coronavirus to 2,564 – along with a further 698 in care homes.
Yesterday was the 12th day running that no deaths had been reported in the Black Country and Staffordshire.
A death in Birmingham was reported on Wednesday.
Deaths in hospitals across England increased by six to bring the total number to 29,547, in figures announced today.
A total of 383 people have died at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals – after the new death announced today.
Elsewhere, 288 have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, after one further death reported today.

A total of 264 have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, while 230 have died at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, while 355 people have died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust, which runs County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital.
The death toll at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, the largest in the region, stands at 973. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals in Birmingham.
A spokesman for the NHS said: "A further six people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,547.
"The patients were between 52 years-old and 91 years-old. All bar one individual (aged 85) had known underlying health conditions.
"Date of death ranges from June 23 to August 28 2020, with the majority on or after August 27.
"The families have been informed."
