Four more coronavirus deaths in Sandwell and Birmingham

Three people were today confirmed to have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and one death was confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.

All three deaths at the university trust, that runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals, happened on Friday.

The death at Sandwell and West Birmingham, which runs Sandwell General Hospital and City Hospital, happened last Sunday.

A further coronavirus patient has since died at the trust but their death was confirmed yesterday. Some deaths are not announced for several days due to testing or informing relatives.

No other deaths were announced at hospitals in the region today.

So far 2,558 people have died with coronavirus in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire and 695 people have died with the disease in the region's care homes.

Meanwhile the UK-wide death toll, which includes deaths in and out of hospitals, increased by eight to 46,574 today.

It comes as health bosses in Sandwell have urged anyone who attended a barbecue at a pub in Smethwick to self-isolate after three cases were linked to the event.
