No new Black Country coronavirus deaths as one confirmed in Staffordshire

The deaths of two more coronavirus patients at hospitals in Staffordshire and Birmingham were confirmed to day.

However no new deaths were announced at hospitals in the Black Country for the third day this week.

One patient was reported to have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, the region's biggest hospital trust, along with one patient at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, the largest in Staffordshire.

It means the hospital death toll across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire now stands at 2,525. A further 600 people have died with coronavirus at care homes in the region.

Meanwhile the UK-wide death toll released by the Government, which includes deaths in and out of hospitals, increased by 67 to 44,198 today.

The number of deaths in English hospitals increased by 39 to 28,871 with nine of the 39 deaths happening in the Midlands.

The latest death at the University Hospitals Birmingham trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital and three others in Birmingham, takes the Covid-19 death toll there to 967.

And today's announcement means 348 coronavirus patients have now died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands trust, which runs County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital.

No new deaths were announced at any other health trusts in the Black Country or Worcestershire.

It means the number of coronavirus deaths at the following trusts remains the same:

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals: 286
The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital: 263
The Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals: 377
The Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital: 225

There wer also no new deaths in Worcestershire, where 303 people have died in hospital after contracting the virus.

Meanwhile pubs, hairdressers and attractions across the West Midlands have reopened as lockdown restrictions were eased today.
