Government lockdown slogan 'unclear', says NHS chief
A Black Country NHS boss has said the Government's new "stay alert" lockdown slogan is "unclear", but that he believes ministers have a clear plan.
Toby Lewis, chief executive of the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, also said testing and tracing had been "too small and too late" but that it was now time to "chase the virus".
The Government has been accused of lacking clarity after scrapping the "stay home" part of its coronavirus lockdown message in England, instead changing it to "stay alert".
And Mr Lewis said on Twitter: "The slogan may be unclear, but, in fairness, the plan is clear.
"Testing and tracing too small and too late, but now we need local control to chase the virus and protect the vulnerable."
A coronavirus testing centre has been set up at the trust's Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick as part of the national effort to carry out 100,000 tests a day, which the Government has missed every day over the past week.
