Walsall Arboretum reopens after two-day closure due to visitors flouting lockdown

Walsall Arboretum has been reopened two days after police ordered its closure due to visitors flouting lockdown rules over the Easter weekend.

The play areas at the park have been locked up for three weeks

Officers asked Walsall Council to close the park due to concerns over how many people were ignoring social distancing rules early on Easter Monday.

The play areas had been locked up since the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown but until Monday the general park area had remained open for locals doing their daily exercise.

But early this morning the authority announced the arboretum would be reopening after discussion with police, but reminded all users to social distance.

A spokesman for the authority said: "In further discussion with WM Police we have decided to reopen Walsall Arboretum today but remind all users of all open spaces they should only be used in line with the Government's guidance on social distancing."
