Repatriation flights are due to start from India this week

Ministers have announced that charter flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Goa will start in the coming days to bring home tourists who are stuck due India's coronavirus lockdown.

However, many of those from the Black Country are in the Punjab region, from where flights are yet to be arranged.

John Spellar, the Labour MP for Warley, said dozens of his constituents still have no idea when they will get home.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"These flights are welcome. However, we urgently need additional flights in other locations," he said.

"Currently our people stranded in Punjab are unable to move out of that state. Therefore, we urgently need flights from Amritsar.

"It is also concerning that there are no announcements yet about flights from Pakistan. I am continuing to urge the Government to arrange flights to get our people home."

It is believed that hundreds of Black Country tourists are trapped in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Flights from Goa to Stansted will take place on April 8, 10 and 12, while flights from Delhi to Heathrow will take place on April 9 and 11.

Flights from Mumbai to Heathrow are due to take off on April 9 and 11.
