Care at Christmas: Acorns Children's Hospice welcomes £126 million cash boost
Hospices across the West Midlands will benefit from a £126 million cash boost announced by the Government.
News that the Department of Health and Social Care will be making a £100 million capital investment in hospices across the country, coupled with the continuation of a £26 million grant scheme for another year, has been welcomed by hospices in the West Midlands.
Acorns Children's Hospice, which has a centre in Walsall, said the announcement was a step in the right direction.
The hospice has featured in the Express & Star's Care at Christmas campaign, highlighting the hospice's invaluable work to help thousands of families.
Trevor Johnson, chief executive at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “We welcome today’s government announcement that NHS England funding for children’s hospices, formerly known as the Children’s Hospice Grant, will continue into 2025/26.
"The children and families we care for deserve this support.“
Mr Johnson said it was a step in the right direction, and showed the Government was listening.
"We look forward to the new year and understanding more about how the £26 million will be distributed, and working with the Government on the long-term picture for funding for the sector.
"This is a significant investment in hospice care across England and will help us continue to provide essential services and lifeline support to over 1,000 children and families throughout the West Midlands when they need it most.”
