Luke Poulton-Hyde, aged 20, from Darlaston, set himself a challenge of cycling 350km in 30 days to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

The University of Derby student said: “My mum found the challenge and suggested I do it, at first I didn’t want to as I suffer with my mental health and in the winter that is when it is worse.

“For the challenge I could either run, walk or cycle and I chose to cycle, I set myself a goal of riding 350km.

"I loved doing it every day and I have a passion for mental health especially since the pandemic has highlighted it.

"Through the challenge, I wanted to raise awareness for mental health and also do it for myself.”

So far, Luke has raised £1,105 and has received a certificate and a medal for his efforts.

He added: “I am over the moon with the money I raised and for not doubting myself and pushing through.

"A lot of things happened on the way, I had three punctured tyres and a broken chain but I kept going.

"My favourite route I took was around all of the football stadiums.

"I’m a big Villa fan so I cycled to Villa Park from Wednesbury which was really good.

"I will do it again next year, maybe for another charity, and might even cycle 500km.”
