Concerns had been raised about Brace Street Health Centre, on Brace Street in Walsall, back in 2014 when inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited.

It was rated requires improvement and ordered to improve by bosses at the health watchdog.

However, after being reinspected back in March this year, the CQC has now said the surgery has made significant improvements and is now rated good.

A report prepared by inspectors after the most recent inspection noted how well the surgery responds to people’s needs and how services were now effective, caring and well-led.

Inspectors also noted their delight at seeing staff motivated and inspired to offer compassionate care, working hard to overcome obstacles and how the practice understood the needs and profile of its population.

Dr Shashikala De, the GP at the health centre, said: "Me and my staff are really proud of the rating and this is testament to the enormous dedication and hard work of the team.

"The strength of our practice lies in our teamwork – to provide the best quality of care to our patients in all aspects. We are particularly pleased that the CQC recognised our commitment to providing a good caring service to our patients’.

Donna Macarthur, the director for primary care at NHS Walsall Care Quality Commission, which looks after GP services across Walsall, said: “We are delighted to see Brace Street Health Centre receive a positive inspection rating from the CQC. Their staff have worked hard to make changes from their last inspection and we look forward to working with them further in the future.”
