Wednesfield Primary school pupils help our Feed a Family This Christmas Appeal

Pupils at Wood End Primary School in Wednesfield have joined those giving the campaign a helping hand.

Our appeal is supporting the work of food banks and other charities who are helping to feed struggling families, individuals and the homeless in the run up to Christmas.

Dozens of donations have been collected by the youngsters which will all be passed on to good causes around the region.

Wood End Primary has backed the appeal for the second year in a row.

The good causes being supported are The Well (Home of Wolverhampton Food Bank), The Good Shepherd Ministry in Wolverhampton, the Black Country Food Bank, Smethwick Food Bank, Walsall North Food Bank and Cannock and District Food Bank.

The appeal is running until Saturday so there is still time to get involved.

The campaign has been backed by schools, groups and celebrities since its launch.

Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton, who was in Stourbridge to switch on the town’s Christmas lights, added his backing. Former Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has also lent her support along with fellow panto stars.

They have been joined by the likes of Slade guitarist Dave Hill, The Vamps, antiques guru Will Farmer and GB gold medallist Joe Clarke.

The campaign is aiming to donate thousands of non-perishable items to food banks in Staffordshire and the Black Country, with more and more regular families having to turn to them just to get by. Last year, when we launched the drive, more than 9,000 items were generously donated by readers.

The items will be donated to The Well (Home of Wolverhampton Food Bank), Wolverhampton’s the Good Shepherd Ministry, the Black Country Food Bank, the Smethwick Food Bank, Walsall North Food Bank and Cannock and District Food Bank, while domestic violence support charity The Haven will also benefit.

Donations can be dropped off at Express & Star offices in Wolverhampton, Cannock and Oldbury while collection points have also been set up at Waitrose in Wolverhampton and The Midcounties Co-operative Food Store in Codsall. People have until Saturday, December 16 to donate.
