McDonald's Clean Up

This summer we're teaming up with McDonald's to help continue their fight against litter up and down the country.

McDonald’s crew members have been cleaning up litter dropped in our local communities for over 35 years!

Last month we asked readers to have their say on the area in their local community they wanted to see McDonald’s clean up this June.

McDonald's volunteers will be taking to the streets on the 9th of June to clean up Wolverhampton and hopefully make a real difference to their local community.

Fancy joining them? We’d like to encourage our readers to join the McDonald’s team in the fight against litter. Check out the details of the event below, and come and join in! If you fancy taking part, please email KeepUpTheCleanUp@redconsultancy.com for more information*.

Date: 9th June

Meeting point: Penn Road McDonalds, WV3 0LH

Meeting time: 11am

*All members of the public under 18 should be accompanied by a responsible adult

Similar McDonald's clean up events will be happening at various locations across the country in June.

This month-long initiative is just one of the ways McDonald's is tackling litter in 2019 as part of its 'Keep Up the Clean Up' campaign.

In fact, McDonald’s crew members cover a total of 3,000 miles each week on litter patrols (where they collect litter from any origin, not just their own).

McDonald's is tackling litter not just through picking it up, but also by working to reduce waste produced by its restaurants.

Whether it’s by turning waste into energy and fuel, or through its dedication to recycling, the brand is serious about a more sustainable future. They set themselves the target of sending zero waste to landfill by 2020 (and many restaurants actually achieved this in 2017.)

For example, did you know McDonald’s uses old cooking oil to power its deliveries? McDonald’s collects used oil from its kitchens and turns this into enough biodiesel to fuel more than half of their delivery fleet.

McDonald’s crew members across the UK cover a total of 3,000 MILES each week on litter patrols

Check out McDonald's sustainability credentials from 2018 in numbers...

  • 3.5 million litres of oil were collected from McDonald’s and converted into biodiesel fuel

  • 11,700 tonnes of Co2 emissions were saved by McDonald’s powering their UK delivery fleet with biodiesel, rather than other fuel

  • Several of its new McDonald’s restaurants have 100% LED lighting – which uses 50% less energy than fluorescent lights. In total McDonald’s has installed 120,000 bulbs across the UK

  • In 2018 about 5,000 tonnes of food waste were collected from restaurants, this waste underwent a process to turn it in to renewable gas and produced enough energy to power 800 homes for a year
