Rain is expected to last until tomorrow, with warnings for areas along many rivers, and the Met Office this afternoon added a yellow warning for ice.

Flood barriers are in place on the River Severn in Bewdley, which was badly hit by flooding in 2020, as the town prepares for the damage that may be caused by Storm Christoph.

A yellow weather warning remains in place until Thursday.

The Midlands could see double the average rainfall for the whole month in two-and-a-half days.

The West Midlands is in the grip of a weather warning, with the Met Office predicting nine hours of rain in the Black Country.

The Met Office has warned homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

It issued a "danger to life" warning due to fast-flowing or deep flood water, while there is a "good chance" some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.

During Prime Minister's questions, Stafford MP Theo Clarke called Boris Johnson to commit to her campaign for a flood centre in Stafford.

She hopes that the centre would be manned 24/7 for residents to call directly if they need assistance.

In response to her question, Mr Johnson said: "The Environment Agency is working hand in glove with the local authority to find a solution to the problems in Sandon Road and at Sandyford Brook."

Elsewhere in Staffordshire, police have received a number of reports of flooding in areas of Biddles Lane, near Swynnerton and on the A5013 towards Eccleshall.

Officers have reminded motorists to take extra care on the roads today and avoid driving through flood water and to only make essential journeys.

There are now 53 weather warnings in place across Enlgand as river levels are set to continue to rise.
