Drivers urged to take extra care as 'severe weather' affects M6 Toll and warnings issued
'Severe' weather conditions are affecting transport routes as further snow falls across the region today.
The Met Office has placed a yellow weather warning in force for parts of the West Midlands and Staffordshire up until 6pm today, with drivers urged to take extra care by emergency services.
The M6 Toll has been heavily affected by the weather, according to a social media post from the firm which runs the toll road, saying severe snowy weather is affecting both the north and southbound sections between Norton Canes Services and M6 junction 11a.
Temperatures are not expected to rise above four degrees Celsius (39.2 Fahrenheit) for the rest of the day.
Snow fallen in South Staffordshire, Stafford, Cannock, Wolverhampton and Gornal and is expected to continue into the afternoon.
The Met Office had forecast dry and mostly sunny weather to start, with cloud building through the day, and a chance of some rain or snow coming in from the northeast from mid afternoon, with colder temperatures than average for this time of year.
This evening is set to be cloudy with scattered wintry outbreaks and is a chance of frost in places, with temperatures to drop to -2 degrees Celsius (28.4 Fahrenheit).
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue has reminded motorists to take extra care on the roads this morning.
