2,300 sign petition against possible Wall Heath business park
Nearly 2,400 people have now signed a petition against a possible business park on the edge of Wall Heath.
A vision document has been prepared by CWC Group for a vast site the size of 90 football pitches which would create a huge extension to the village.
No plans have yet been submitted but a lot of time has gone in to preparing the document which could provide a vision of the future.
The development would include offices and warehouses, if it is ever to be brought forward.
However, the intention to build on green belt land has sparked alarm.
MP Mike Wood has also insisted there is “absolutely no justification” for “destroying” the green belt and residents have made clear they are ready to fight any application all the way.
The total who had signed the petition currently stands at 2,397.
One of those to sign the petition, Elaine Williams, said: "Green belt land must be protected and the area in question should not be used for industry. Wildlife must be respected."
Anna James said: "We need to stop building on green belt and use other options. Green spaces need better protection.
"Ancient woodlands are irreplaceable not just because of the trees there, but the whole ecosystem, animals and habitat that exists with them."
Mr Wood and West Midlands Mayor Andy Street have insisted there is no need to build on the green belt when there are so many brownfield sites available in the region.
However, some council leaders disagree with the Mayor and have insisted it is inevitable a certain amount of green belt land will have to be let go to meet the huge demand for housing over the next two decades.
