Elderly woman rescued from Staffordshire house fire

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being rescued from her house in Staffordshire.

A fire broke out at the 87-year-old woman's house in Targate Court, Armitage, near Rugeley, this morning.

Fire crews were called to the house just before 1am, and they used breathing apparatus to rescue her.

She was handed over to the ambulance service, and was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

She was being kept in for observation this morning.

Fire investigators are set to visit the property later today to try and find the cause of the fire, although it is not thought there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the cause.
