Fresh fire alert at Smethwick waste plant after massive blaze
Firefighters were called back to the site of the massive Jayplas blaze today after a security guard noticed smouldering.

Crews left the Smethwick recycling plant at 10pm last night, deciding to revisit the scene every three hours to make sure there was no chance of the fire reigniting.
But, inbetween inspections, a security guard spotted another hotspot and raised the alarm at 5.45am.
Fire service spokesman Dave Janes said: "We had crews there until yesterday evening but rather than tie up a valuable resource, we decided to brief security staff about what to look for and the system has worked. This is not us being caught out, this was always our plan."
The inferno saw more than 200 firefighters battle the blaze – started by a Chinese lantern.
