A youngster seriously ill in hospital after coming off his bike in Rugeley was today named as eight-year-old Bradley Smith.
Family members have been by his side at hospital in Birmingham since the accident on Monday evening.
Speaking from the doorstep of the family home, one relative, who did not wish to be named, said he was still unconscious and everyone had been devastated by the accident.
Bradley hit his head after falling off his bike while playing.
Paramedics and police were called to Burnthill Lane, which is a hill and main thoroughfare in the town just off Horse Fair, at around 7.40pm on Monday.
The youngster was airlifted to the paediatric major trauma unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where staff had been alerted of his arrival.
His condition was described as "very serious".
Paramedics said there was no suggestion a car had been involved. West Midlands Ambulance service spokesman Murray MacGregor said staff found Bradley not fully conscious after suffering a serious head injury.
