Parents of children who attend Highfields School - in Penn, Wolverhampton - will have to keep them busy for an extra two days next week after school officials told them that it would now reopen for the new term on Thursday (January 9), instead of Tuesday (January 7).
In an email to parents, shared on Facebook, a staff member said that the school would remain closed to children due to an 'issue with the school buildings' that needs 'immediate attention'.
They followed up by saying that engineers have been booked to attend the school on Monday and 'do not' anticipate that the school will be ready to open on Tuesday as planned.
The email said: "Unfortunately, we have been alerted to an issue with the school buildings that needs immediate attention.
"We have engineers booked to attend school on Monday but at this point we do not anticipate that school will be in a position to open to students on Tuesday as planned.
"We have reluctantly taken the decision that students will return to school on Thursday, January 9, and not Tuesday as expected."
There is now a banner displayed on the school's site, reading: "School will re-open to all students at usual time on Thursday, January 9 2025."
